Communication

Communication with your spouse would be so much easier if they thought, felt, and experienced life the same way you do.  Unfortunately, we are not married to ourselves!  Since there are two people in a relationship, communication can be difficult and confusing.  We can help you build communication skills so that you can develop deeper intimacy with others and resolve conflict in a more loving way.  When you talk to your counselor about communication, you will:

  • Explore the different languages of love
  • Learn active listening skills that demonstrate respect and care to your mate
  • Learning to assert yourself in a way that creates a win-win result
  • Expose and break down barriers to intimacy

We were created for intimate relationships, and it is in these close relationships that we thrive.  Often, we experience barriers to intimacy, and your therapist can help identify what keeps you from a close, healthy relationship.  Examples of behaviors that thwart intimacy include making assumptions, hasty decisions that induce regret and pain, and control that breeds resentment.  Your therapist will help you incorporate positive behaviors such as basic kindness and nurturing that promote intimacy.
